Our weekend so far

Old house update

August 4, 2008 · Posted in life · 1 Comment

I’m proud of myself for getting stuff done this weekend.

Because Saturday was spent celebrating C’s birthday with family and friends, I turned down the opportunity to hang out at the lake on Sunday. With the house to myself, I turned up the music and got to work.

Yesterday, I finished putting polyurethane on some exposed bricks in E’s new room upstairs, in addition to finishing the trim and thoroughly cleaning it out. For the first time since before we’ve owned the house, the floor is clean!

Cleaning the floor, incidentally, required completely reorganizing the upstairs and taking numerous trips to the trash (construction debris) and to the basement (drywall and wood).

I had to take a break before I could vacuum the floor, because I needed the polyurethane to dry. So I took the opportunity to gather up all the recyclables from the weekend (babies get big toys), and I disposed of them.

Oh yeah, and on breaks from painting, I did a ton of laundry and cleaned the kitchen.

W00t!

The mind is willing …

There are so many things I want to get accomplished today. I even wrote a list … several days ago. I was excited about all the things I would get done this weekend.

But I am completely lacking in physical energy. I logically want to work, but emotionally and physically I want to turn on the tv.

Come on, Jon, you can do it.

This will ruin my plans for the weekend

It doesn’t look good for my outdoor weekend plans. I was planning on spending most of Saturday and Sunday outside taking out tree stumps, killing some weeds, mowing, weedeating, and generally cleaning shop. And Katie is going to spend the weekend horseshowing.

A front will move across the area late Saturday and Sunday, bringing thunderstorms and possibly large hail and strong gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Is the hail really necessary? And this, too:

A stormy wake-up call is predicted for Saturday morning, with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. It will be mostly cloudy during the day with a high near 87. Wind gusts may be as high as 20 mph.

But doesn’t a forty percent chance of rain mean it’s still more likely than not that it won’t rain? I never can figure these things out. If it’s more than 20% chance of rain, people expect rain. It must be fun being a meteorologist.

Lotsa pictures coming

Our whole clan +1 went to Bell Buckle this weekend to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. I had a extraordinarily good weekend, and I’d like to think Katie had a pretty dern good mother’s day. I’ve got a lot of pictures to sort through, and I’m hoping to post the best of them throughout the day today.

It had been ages since I’d been to the Buckle, as we affectionately call it. During tax season I can’t really go off for the weekend; I’m guessing my last trip down was December. It was really good to see everybody and relax for a few days.

Of course that ultimately means that Katie and I are going to be on super house cleanup mode this week, since we missed our usual weekly house cleaning day.

But it’s all good.

Looking forward to the weekend

I guess it’s never surprising when people tell you they’re looking forward to the weekend. But I’m not eager to get home so I can relax and watch television. Oh no. I’m ready to be home because I can’t wait to clean.

I had hoped Katie and I could go out of town this weekend, to see her fam. But I hadn’t realized how hard it would be to get the house clean after Christmas, especially since we’ve only had evenings to clean. And there’s the baby. No way would I want to return Sunday night to a wrecked house.

So tomorrow, I’ll get up, start a fire, and clean. And I can’t wait.
