Gotta share the cuteness
The sick baby cuteness.
C was watching Momo (Elmo) on On Demand, and I was checking email. I glanced over and she was lying down in front of the television. I walked over and patted her on the back and said “are you ready for a nap?” I then sat down on the coffee table, thinking she’d get up and sit on my lap to watch Momo. Nope. She got up, walked behind me, and pushed. So I stood up, and she reached out her hand to take mine. She glanced at the tv, where baby bear was pretending to be a lion for Maria, and said “bye bye bear.” She led me to the bedroom, where she fell asleep within thirty seconds - so asleep that I took her bottle away from her and she didn’t even stir.
Ho ho ho
I very rarely wish I had a camcorder - especially since my camera will record video, albeit not wonderfully - but last night would’ve been a good time to hit record.
On the way to supper with my family last night, Katie taught the Bug how to say “ho, ho, ho,” as in “C, what does Santa say?”
So last night there was lots of cute little “ho, ho, ho” and even some “he, he, he” monkey sounds and some “ho, ha, he” thrown in for good measure.
Believe me, it was cute.
Lovin C’s new nap routine and cute words
Some things get easier, some things get harder. C’s new nap routine is definitely easier.
A few minutes ago, she was running around my office, being cute and wanting to read books: “boo! up pease! boo!”
Then suddenly she was ready for a nap: “boppy! boppy!” I love that her word for bottle - presumably from “bottle please” - is “boppy.”
She grabbed my finger and pulled me to the fridge, which I usually keep stocked with a couple of bottles. “Boppy! Boppy!” I pulled one out, sat her on my lap, closed the window shade, and handed her the boppy. She rested her head back, drank for a few minutes while playing with her hair (she’s done that since day one), and was out.
Just like that, leaving me only to put her in bed and put a blanket over her. Oh, and put the boppy back in the fridge.
That child loves to read
It’s amazing and wonderful how much baby C loves to read. Set her in a room of toys and books, and she’ll hand you a book and want to sit on your lap.
This morning, I dropped the Bug off at her Mimi’s house on my way to work. She gave me a big kiss, and then wanted to follow me out to wave goodbye (ok, really she just likes going outside). But of course she had to bring a book, and right as I got in the car, she must have remembered the book, because she promptly plopped down and started flipping through the pages.
The Bug says “Whoa!”
I’ve been slack lately about getting pictures of the Bug. Maybe it’s cold-induced crusty nose, or the never ending series of mosquito bites. Or maybe I’m just out of the habit.
Either way, I wish I’d thought to bring out the camera last night. Then I could treat y’all to a round of “whoas” from the Bug.
Last night, right after E helped the cat catch a mouse, he was at the computer, looking up large dog breeds (yes, it’s true). He apparently saw a pretty impressively big dog, because after a minute he said “Whoa!”
Immediately after E’s Whoa, C followed with a Whoa of her own, and she didn’t stop all evening. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa! And the best part was the expression on her face every time.
Will somebody please knock some sense into me? I simply cannot believe I didn’t think to grab the camera.
Dear C -
Dear C - why is it that when you and your mama are hanging out, you are happy entertaining yourself, but when you and I are hanging out - like we did most of the weekend - you have to be held the whole time?
The cuteness
My mother gave the Bug a toy cell phone last week, because she clearly loves to chat on the phone. Unfortunately, the phone didn’t live long.
So I handed her an old phone from my desk drawer, and she has been walking in circles around my desk for the past five minutes, just like I do, clearly making an important business call.
Not Mimi. Daddy.
This morning, I was standing beside the Bug when she woke up. She was sleeping on her stomach, and she lifted up her head, blinked, and said “Mimi?!”
So very busy
I feel like I’m behind in everything. Work is piling up on my desk, and I’ve got a ton of stuff to do at home, too. It’s no fun that I missed nearly a week of work just to come back to a broken computer. I don’t know when I’ll find the time to deal with that.
On the upside, the Bug is cuter than ever. Her favorite word right now is “no,” which seems to have several meanings - including “yes.” And I simply love watching this person of thirty inches walking around the house and office.
This weekend, my parents are going to be out of town (again) to visit MS for my little nephew’s christening. I wish I could go, but since Katie just got a new job, and just took off a week for bereavement, taking off more work is simply not an option.
The other downside to their leaving town is they can’t help with the Bug this weekend. Katie and I have let the house go to seed over the last few weeks, and there are some big problem areas that need attending to. So this weekend we’ll be taking turns cleaning and playing with the baby, instead of having sitting and knocking it out in a few hours.
Number one on my todo list is to shave an inch or so off of E’s new bedroom door. Embarrassingly enough, I haven’t found the time to do that in the last month, so E’s had a not-so-private room of late. I find it adorable, though, that he hasn’t seemed to notice or care.
Ok, back to that pile of work on my desk. Ugh.
Painful to watch
Last night, the Bug got to play with her cute same-aged cousin, NC. NC - the modern child - brought along her cell phone, which as far as I could tell didn’t do anything other than flip open and close.
For a while, NC played with her little phone, but after an hour or so, I noticed she’d left it for greener pastures and toys she doesn’t get to play with as often. The Bug, too, noticed that NC had left her toy on the floor by its lonesome.
I watched my girl play with that toy for at least ten minutes. She was in love - completely fixated on the little phone and ignoring the world around her. But such an affair could only last so long, and sure enough NC noticed that her cousin was playing with her phone, and like any baby, she had to have it back (my cute three-year-old niece likes to say “we’re sharing!” as she takes her toys from other kids).
Here’s an emotion I’d never felt before. When C had the toy taken away from her, the look on her face took my breath away. She screamed “no, no, no, no!” but her face said “the world is unfair … I can’t believe this … is this the life I’m going to have to live? is this the way the world works? How can this be?”
I swear I nearly cried.
Where’s the Bug?
For obvious reasons, the Bug is staying at home with her mama today and tomorrow.
I miss her *so* much. I keep thinking about her cute little bed head this morning when she first woke up. She leaned over and put her forhead against mine and said “mwaa!” in her best baby-kiss voice.
I bet she’s enjoying having some mama time today. In fact, I’m jealous of both of them.
