She pulled up!

April 22nd, 2008 | 3 Comments

For the last week or so, the bug has been pulling up every chance she gets. Any time there’s something to grab, she tries to pull up. But her only luck thus far has been pulling up with our help.

Well, that all changed this morning. I left her in her bed for just a minute (although I kept an eye on her because I knew she’d been trying to pull up), and after about ten seconds in bed, she was standing - yes, standing - at one end of the bed, using the top rail as support.

She’s obviously going to skip crawling. Oh, and don’t worry - I have now lowered her mattress.

Ready for my nap now….

April 4th, 2008 | 1 Comment

So last night I did make it to the dinner with Katie. It turned out that my parents could bring C to their evening meeting (and I hear she ran the show).

The whole shindig was quite neat. Not only did they wine and dine us (sans wine, of course) in the luxurious skybox at the football stadium, but we also got the privilege of hearing one of new media’s leading innovators. He is an amazing speaker, and he really changed my thinking with where we’re heading with technology and the media. I’d never realized, for example, the extent to which databases drive pretty much anything interesting online, and I was reminded once again how hard it is to think outside your paradigm.

I’ll never forget the day in college when they asked me, as a member of the tech support group on campus, whether it was worthwhile to invest in wireless internet. At the time, I thought the notion was ridiculous. I had no clue.

Anyway, I was impressed and honored to be there, but I still can’t believe how late it ran. We got C home and in bed around 11, but my parents had already gotten her down to sleep, and she didn’t stir from their house to the car and then to her bed, which was a really fortunate first. I know they had good reasons for running so late, but it sure wasn’t ideal for anyone who had to work today.

Did someone say something about work?

You know that bit in Office Space?

You know that bit in Office Space -

Peter Gibbons: So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that’s on the worst day of my life.
Dr. Swanson: What about today? Is today the worst day of your life?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah.
Dr. Swanson: Wow, that’s messed up.

Lately, C-bug’s diapers have been just like that. Every time I change her dirty diaper, I tell Katie “that was the biggest, nastiest diaper she’s ever had.” Then the next time I change her dirty diaper, I tell Katie “no that was the biggest, nastiest diaper she’s ever had.” Then the time after that, when I change C’s diaper, I tell Katie “no, *that* was the biggest, nastiest diaper she’s ever had.”

And then there was the diaper I just changed. *shudder*

Happy eight months, C-bug

(Incidentally, she looks exactly like me in this picture … if I were an eight month old baby girl, of course.)

Screaming her head off as we speak

March 19th, 2008 | 3 Comments

C is at the doctor for her six month shots (yes, we’re running late). I talked to Katie between the weighing in and the shots, and she’s still got the huge head to small height ratio (49th percentile height, 90th for weight and head size). She weighs 20 pounds even.

Katie had to hang up when the doctor showed up for the shots, and she hasn’t yet called back. I can only assume my cute little girl is currently screaming her confused head off.

:-(

edit: word is she cried for about thirty seconds and then proceeded to laugh and laugh and laugh. yay!

First time ever

March 18th, 2008 | No Comments

Pretty cool. Today at work, C fell asleep in the backpack, carried by her Mimmi, and - for the first time ever - we were able to take her from the back pack and put her in her car seat without waking her.

She was a good girl today.
