I have to admit it

August 11th, 2008 | 2 Comments

I enjoy watching the summer Olympics. I’m not a huge sports fan, and I don’t get excited about the individual sports - you wouldn’t find me watching gymnastics, for example, or badminton unless it was for the Olympics. But I am enjoying this, and I will be sad when it’s over.

I can’t believe school is about to start

August 8th, 2008 | No Comments

I just can’t believe it. On Wednesday, the kids are going back to school. Summer break is officially over.

Instead of hanging out at home or friends, and instead of us trying to figure out what they’re doing during the day, it will be ferrying too and from school and school events … and the dreaded homework.

And then there’s the morning routine. Tuesday morning - the last day of summer vacation - will be drastically different than Wednesday. Because Katie will be between jobs on Monday and Tuesday, I will be leaving for work both days sans baby. I’ll be leaving and they will still be in bed.

But on Wednesday, we’ll be leaving about the same time. We’ll have to wake them in the morning and make sure they have their (grr) uniforms and backpacks. And while I’ll have to leave a few minutes earlier to get to work on time, they will be right behind me out the door.

I wonder if they’re excited or dreading it. I wonder if they got all of their summer reading done.

Not exactly a travel album

I’m really enjoying this album right now, even though it’s not going on my “in the car” mix.

Sent by my Dell laptop

August 5th, 2008 | 1 Comment

I’ve got to say, after a week of having a Blackberry in the house, I am officially in the pro column; I’d love to have one.

But here’s one thing that will to drive me absolutely bonkers, unless there’s some way to turn it off:

I can’t stand the stupid automatic signature on handheld devices. If I have to read one more “sent by my Blackberry” or “sent by my iphone,” I think I’m going to scream

So much good music, so little time

August 5th, 2008 | 2 Comments

Every time I think I’m about to run out of good music to find (there’s got to be an end somewhere, right?) - every time I go for a few days without finding anything interesting - I run across several sounds that I love.

Even if they do often have stupid names, I can’t get enough good music.

Old house update

August 4th, 2008 | 1 Comment

I’m proud of myself for getting stuff done this weekend.

Because Saturday was spent celebrating C’s birthday with family and friends, I turned down the opportunity to hang out at the lake on Sunday. With the house to myself, I turned up the music and got to work.

Yesterday, I finished putting polyurethane on some exposed bricks in E’s new room upstairs, in addition to finishing the trim and thoroughly cleaning it out. For the first time since before we’ve owned the house, the floor is clean!

Cleaning the floor, incidentally, required completely reorganizing the upstairs and taking numerous trips to the trash (construction debris) and to the basement (drywall and wood).

I had to take a break before I could vacuum the floor, because I needed the polyurethane to dry. So I took the opportunity to gather up all the recyclables from the weekend (babies get big toys), and I disposed of them.

Oh yeah, and on breaks from painting, I did a ton of laundry and cleaned the kitchen.

W00t!

And she sleeps

August 4th, 2008 | No Comments

After at least a month - I’ve lost track - of the Bug sleeping horribly, she has now slept well two nights in a row. For the last month, she’s fussed pretty much every thirty minutes all night long.

And her sleep last night should’ve been relieving. I think it really helped Katie, but I slept just as poorly. All night long I kept thinking thoughts like “it’s quiet … Katie told me to take over C care, and it’s quiet because she fell off the bed!”

Finally, when she woke up feeling a normal amount of fussy around 4, I was relieved to hear her cry! I only slept well that last hour and a half, knowing that Katie had her and she was acting normally.

Katie got a new toy

July 30th, 2008 | 4 Comments

Today, Katie got a new toy. It’s a fancy-schmancy blackberry.

And as much as I love techie stuff and new gadgets, I’m very much not impressed.

Can anybody tell me why I should be impressed?

Guess what tomorrow is….

July 30th, 2008 | No Comments

I can’t believe the baby girl will be one year old tomorrow.

This time last year, I was desperately hoping for good news. And this time last year plus about 9 1/2 hours, I didn’t get the good news I was looking for.

But an hour or so later, the Bug was brought into this world. And the world rejoiced.

I can’t believe it’s been a year.
