Oh sure, now she sleeps

October 2nd, 2008 | No Comments

About once every few days - and two days in a row this week - the Bug has not napped well at work. And usually when this happens - like today - she falls asleep in the car on the way home.

So here I am in my driveway, knowing that C really needs to sleep, but needing more myself to get out of the car and get in the house.

Fun stuff.

She is pretty cute, though, sleeping right behind me, her chin covered on the milk she was drinking when sleep took her.

The cuteness

October 2nd, 2008 | No Comments

My mother gave the Bug a toy cell phone last week, because she clearly loves to chat on the phone. Unfortunately, the phone didn’t live long.

So I handed her an old phone from my desk drawer, and she has been walking in circles around my desk for the past five minutes, just like I do, clearly making an important business call.

I can’t believe there’s only going to be one vice-presidential debate.

Lame.

Popular music? What’s that?

October 1st, 2008 | 3 Comments

Last night Katie asked me if I knew that song “I kissed a girl.”

“Of course I know it,” I said. “Well,” she responded, “you don’t exactly listen to ‘popular’ radio.”

“But that song has been around forever …” I retorted.

Apparently I was wrong. That was another song about kissing a girl. And I have never heard this particular (apparently bad) song. I hope I can keep my streak.

It’s true that I never listen to so-called “popular” music unless I have to. To me, popularity doesn’t have anything to do with good. Take the Macarena, for instance. I was on vacation when that song came out in 1997. When I first heard it, it was already popular. I thought it was a joke. I really did.

Give me emusic, pandora, and last.fm any day of the week over top 40, or whatever it’s called these days. I will pass.

In case you hadn’t noticed

October 1st, 2008 | No Comments

It’s an absolutely gorgeous day out there. I only wish I could make the most of it.

Heck, I wish I could have a fire tonight. Note to self: babyproof the fireplace … somehow.

It’s October

October 1st, 2008 | No Comments

And leaves were covering my parking space when I got to work this morning.

This will be our first autumn with a fence in the back yard. Usually, I push most of the leaves down the driveway, through the back yard, and into the kudzu behind it. But now there’s a fence blocking that path. I have *no clue* what I’ll do.

But I’m happy beyond words that the weather is getting nicer. We’ve slept with our windows open for the last few nights, and it’s actually been cool in the house in the morning. I guess it’s kinda obvious why TVA chose today to raise our rates. It might be a week before we run our a/c again.

Downside to the long commute

September 29th, 2008 | No Comments

Even though I have a new car that seems to get an average of about 35 mpg, I still drive 50 miles a day. The gain of 10 mpg from getting a new car only gave me one extra day between trips to the gas station.

Bring on the grease!

September 29th, 2008 | No Comments

On most work days, I eat a baked potato for lunch. Often I have some green beans to go with it. It’s a pretty dern healthy meal, as these things go, and it’s lacking enough in calories that I’m usually quite hungry by quitting time.

But the baked potato doesn’t always satisfy. I guess you’d call it a fairly bland meal. At the moment, I am absolutely craving something unhealthy. It’s a good thing the Zaxby’s hasn’t reopened yet, but right now I’d settle for a Big Mac.

Ugh. Who chose the time for this debate?

September 26th, 2008 | No Comments

I can’t keep my eyes open much longer. I was really looking forward to watching this debate, but after a long week … I just can’t do it. I don’t want to be awake any longer.

I wish I could know the weather

September 26th, 2008 | No Comments

Not that it’d really do me that much good, I guess.

This weekend is going to be perfect for outdoor work … assuming it doesn’t rain. I could finish painting the front fence. I could get out the chainsaw and cut out the ornamental junk from our front yard (soon to be replaced by a Japanese Maple, I think). I could cut the junk out of the back yard and *gasp* even mow the back yard.

Or it could rain, and I could stay inside and get started on C’s future room.

Hm.
