I have a confession to make.
Sometimes, I let C walk around with a pen in her mouth just because it makes her happy and keeps her from getting upset.
Yes, I know how bad it would be if sue happened to trip and fall.

Don’t be afraid of your kid’s unhappiness. There will be many times that she will demand the short-term pleasure, but it’s your job, your responsibility, to do what’s best for her, not what makes her happy. If you know in your heart that you’re thinking of the bigger picture, you won’t be tempted to give in. Start setting limits now, when it’s relatively easy.
