I’ll get pulled over today

July 21st, 2008, at 4:44 PM

I moved out of my old apartment almost two years ago, but I’ve yet to bother getting a new driver’s license. It’s not that I haven’t thought about it, either. I simply haven’t gotten all the pieces together at the same time. Because the driver’s license office doesn’t accept credit/debit cards, I have to remember a checkbook. I’m annoyed to say I was there just last week but sans checkbook and debit card. Grumble.

But since someone told me the fine for not updating your license ranges in the $500 range, I am now making the update a priority; I’m going on my way home today, which means I’ll likely be pulled over this afternoon.

Incidentally, what an odd colloquialism, “pulled over.” Looking at it, I’m realizing how little meaning it has. The police “pull you over.” How do they “pull” you at all?

I’ve gotten my license renewed online the last two times. I recently changed my address that way too; it’s much easier. If you don’t need a new picture, go that route.

Except it’s 6:30 your time, so you probably already did it. :)

I actually missed it due to a particularly nasty storm. And I didn’t realize I could do it online, but I kinda feel like I should get a new picture, given that I look nothing like I did when the photo was taken (according to the guy at Borders, who acted like he wouldn’t sell me the video for $19.99).
