Katie got a new toy

July 30th, 2008 | 4 Comments

Today, Katie got a new toy. It’s a fancy-schmancy blackberry.

And as much as I love techie stuff and new gadgets, I’m very much not impressed.

Can anybody tell me why I should be impressed?

Guess what tomorrow is….

July 30th, 2008 | No Comments

I can’t believe the baby girl will be one year old tomorrow.

This time last year, I was desperately hoping for good news. And this time last year plus about 9 1/2 hours, I didn’t get the good news I was looking for.

But an hour or so later, the Bug was brought into this world. And the world rejoiced.

I can’t believe it’s been a year.

Gotta stain our back fence

We’re going to start staining our back fence this week, and we want to do it without breaking the bank or taking all year. Anybody got any brilliant recommendations?

The crawl!

July 25th, 2008 | No Comments

I finally got a video of the Bug’s odd crawl, but it’s going to take me a while to get it uploaded.

I think she figured out how to walk before learning to crawl, so she walks with one leg and rests on the other, because she’s not quite ready to walk (probably because she doesn’t need to now that she can crawl).

Anyway, here’s a sneak peak:

Sometimes I’m glad I’m not in a band

July 25th, 2008 | No Comments

‘Cause I’d have to be in a photo like one of these. One of my hobbies is finding new bands and new music. I see *lots* of similarly bad bands photos.

I think the third one is my favorite.

Happy Birthday, Joe!

July 24th, 2008 | 2 Comments

Today is the birthday of my brother Joe, who lives in Mississippi.

I’m hoping he’ll come to town for the Bug’s birthday next week.

Happy birthday, Joe!

Not that I’m complaining, really

I’ve got entirely too much work on my  desk. Every inch is covered and it’s overflowing. And it’s a big desk.

Check out those lips

July 22nd, 2008 | No Comments

The Bug makes the most ridiculous face sometimes. She usually does it when she’s asserting control - she’s announcing that she’s through eating, for instance. But other times I can’t figure out her motivation. But it’s super silly and super cute. I’ll try to get a better picture sometime, but you can see it on this shot at Katie’s blog.

Super silly lips.

I’ll get pulled over today

July 21st, 2008 | 2 Comments

I moved out of my old apartment almost two years ago, but I’ve yet to bother getting a new driver’s license. It’s not that I haven’t thought about it, either. I simply haven’t gotten all the pieces together at the same time. Because the driver’s license office doesn’t accept credit/debit cards, I have to remember a checkbook. I’m annoyed to say I was there just last week but sans checkbook and debit card. Grumble.

But since someone told me the fine for not updating your license ranges in the $500 range, I am now making the update a priority; I’m going on my way home today, which means I’ll likely be pulled over this afternoon.

Incidentally, what an odd colloquialism, “pulled over.” Looking at it, I’m realizing how little meaning it has. The police “pull you over.” How do they “pull” you at all?

Busy busy busy

July 21st, 2008 | 1 Comment

I’m back to trying to paint whenever I can. The Summer of Paint, 2008, continues. I still lack a few hours of staining the front fence - and all of the back fence - but because it’s the middle of the summer, I am on an outdoor work hiatus. But with the a/c working better upstairs, I’m back on track with getting E’s future room ready. Painting trim is *so* much fun!

After the trim is done, it’s carpet and moving time. And I’ll be on to painting the dining room. It’s perhaps our worst-looking room downstairs, and it’s going to be a bear. But we’ve begun buying drapes for the windows, so the walls need to get up to par. I’m quite honestly scared to get in there and see what’s behind the wallpaper; I’m afraid the prep work will take longer than the painting.

And then it’ll be back to the fence. I’ve got a lot of work to do before the Summer of Paint, 2008, ends.
