I don’t miss it one bit, and that surprises me

April 24th, 2008, at 3:24 PM

A few months ago, in the height of my stomach woes, I reduced my caffeine intake from six to eight cups of tea a day down to one or two. The weird thing is that I knew it would kill me to give up caffeine. It’s not just that I expected to have sleepiness issues, either. I just really enjoy a cup of tea.

But I’ve found that I really don’t miss the extra caffeine at all. And on some days, I forget to make my first cup of tea until the afternoon. Other days I find myself thinking about making a second cup and never getting around to it.

I actually feel freed by the lack of caffeine. Who knew?

Have you ever been testing for gluten sensitivity/celiac disease?

I recently gave up wheat and gluten and all related additives after a lifetime of terrible stomach problems. I’m telling you, I feel like a new woman.

I’m supposed to cut down on the caffeine, too, but one thing at a time. I am a diet soda junkie. If I could mainline the stuff, I would.

I have been tested for just about everything, thankfully. A family member recently thought she had celiac and temporarily gave up wheat. I don’t envy you for having to do it, although I’m sure it’s worthwhile to feel so much better.

Last night, I would have killed for a big plate of spaghetti with roasted garlic cloves, butter, and freshly grated parm reg.

Instead, I ate an Amy’s Organic Gluten Free Indian meal.

It wasn’t nearly the same…and I miss it…but I feel so much better and have so much more energy, it’s worth it.

Good luck with your stomach. As someone who had an ulcer in the second grade (1978!), I feel your pain…literally.
