Advice on heat pumps?
February 8th, 2008, at 2:12 PM
Katie and I are replacing our upstairs heat pump (we have separate upstairs and downstairs units). I’ve got four units to pick from, but I don’t know how to decide (two Tranes and two Goodmans). Any suggestions? Trane’s website is fairly useful, but Goodman’s website is worthless. Obviously Trane has a better reputation, but it also is much pricier (and really this isn’t our “main” unit).

I don’t know anything about Goodman, but I have two Tranes in my home and they are great. We chose them about 6 years ago when we built our home and have never regretted it.

Call Jim Tillery at 865-966-6309. He’s a straight shooter and will give you the pros and cons on each. He installed our heat pump and we are very pleased.

A quick google of the Goodman brand showed a lot of unhappy customers.

We decided to go with the cheaper of the two Tranes. I didn’t really consider Goodman for long, since their website was pretty pathetic. And Trane has a really good reputation.

Trane was the company that suggested we put in a bigger unit, which was not necessary at all. We even built on with the smaller unit and all was fine. That brand is no longer available. Our new unit (2 1/2 years) is a Lennox, put in by John Coleman Co. It has been good but isn’t noiseless as they told us it would be.
