Not that I’m biased or anything
Not that I’m biased or anything, but I’m already hooked on KnoxvilleTalks. I don’t have the chance to read a lot of stuff while I’m at work, so KT helps me stay up on what’s going on.
I know that sounds like a cheesy ad or something, but it’s true. And I still think it’s funny that Katie started this project on her week off. I only wish she could post more!
Newbaby Hickman
7 pounds, 12 ounces. That’s how much newbaby Hickman weighed when he was born last night. C has a new cousin, just four and a half months apart. Four and a half months and a six hour drive. I hope I’ll be seeing a picture here soon.
Just three years ago there were no babies in our family; now there are four.
Three years ago, I was pretty much the youngest person in our family; now I’m surrounded by a gaggle of younguns.
Disappointment
Was anybody else disappointed tonight to find the Rudolph movie following the other Christmas classics to be not this great one with Burl Ives but this terrible one with Rick Moranis?
Babies and television
Ok, I know kids aren’t supposed to watch television for the first few years of their lives, but it’s super cute to see C in her excersaucer (”Bounce Bounce Baby,” actually) with her eyes glued to a good Christmas movie.
How sick my wife feels
When I got home, Katie was already here. I thought I’d be here first, but she was sick in bed and gladly handed over the four-month-old. How sick did she feel? When I joked that she was just trying to have some time to herself, she looked at me like I’d slapped her.
Oops! You have to pick your battles, and you also have to know when to be completely serious.
No pictures
Another downside to seeing baby C less this week is getting to take - and post - fewer pictures.
The rest of the family will be returning fairly late this evening. Luckily, that will give me time to get a good fire going and settle in a bit. But I’ll also have very little time with anybody before it’ll be time to throw in the towel for the day. At least not having the baby at work means I can sleep a bit later.
Tired of wasting time
Over the last week, I’ve spent countless unnecessary hours working on one client. Part of the problem is that I’m not as experienced on this kind of return as I am in others, but most of the time lost is due to interpreting what the client’s previous accountant did. And now that it’s thirty minutes till closing time, I’m tired of it. I was hoping to be finished with this return a few days ago, but I’m still rehashing the same kind of problems I thought I finished with last week.
Maybe tomorrow I’ll get this turned in.
Another cute thing about family businesses
My mother is downstairs right now, with her Christmas cards spread out in the conference room.
Not nearly enough
I got home last night around 6. C was already getting kind close to bed time and was a little bit cranky; mostly she wanted her mama to hold and feed her. I think I had her for forty-five minutes altogether, but she probably fussed for half of that. This morning, I held her for maybe fifteen minutes.
I don’t know how most dads do it. I knew I was lucky to get to have C at work with me a few days a week, but I didn’t know how good I had it. If a guy only sees his kid at night and in the morning, he’s really only seeing her when she wants her mom. But that’s the way most guys do it, isn’t it? They have a few minutes here and there, and they have the weekend.
For me, that’s not nearly enough.
Gotta sit back and relax
I keep finding myself leaning forward towards the computer, over my work, or staring out the window. And my stomach tells me I need to work on my posture. Maybe I need one of these?

What was she thinking?
Katie, for those of y’all who haven’t noticed, has started a new project for work. She is now the voice of knoxvilletalks.com, and she now has to post - a lot - about what local bloggers are talking about. And when did this project launch? The day before she went on vacation. So now she has the rest of the week off to get ready for Christmas (and play with the baby), but she is still in charge of posting over at kt. Brilliant.
So if there are some time gaps between the posts, imagine her jumping up from the computer to wrap presents, running to the post office to drop off Christmas cards, or, better yet, making festive food - all while playing with the baby and parenting the other kids.
I’m kind of worn out just thinking about it. Maybe I should take a nap….
