Not nearly enough

I got home last night around 6. C was already getting kind close to bed time and was a little bit cranky; mostly she wanted her mama to hold and feed her. I think I had her for forty-five minutes altogether, but she probably fussed for half of that. This morning, I held her for maybe fifteen minutes.
I don’t know how most dads do it. I knew I was lucky to get to have C at work with me a few days a week, but I didn’t know how good I had it. If a guy only sees his kid at night and in the morning, he’s really only seeing her when she wants her mom. But that’s the way most guys do it, isn’t it? They have a few minutes here and there, and they have the weekend.
For me, that’s not nearly enough.

My husband definately deals with that. Especially the past few months, when he would come home from work and have to do homework for his master’s degree classes nights and weekends. Luckily he has a new job where he gets to work on his homework during the day…
I was a nanny before having our daughter. When I did the math and realized that on weekdays I spent more time with the kid than his parents (about equal time if you count the weekends), I knew I couldn’t leave my kids with somebody else that long. Especially if it wasn’t a grandparent/relative. For me it just wasn’t an option. So I’m a stay-at-home mom. Yeah, money is tight, but I’d rather spend quality time with my kid than have expensive cars/house/electronics/etc. Plus, I can run errands during the day, leaving more quality family time with/for my husband and kid.
I’m not knocking working parents, I realize every person’s priorities and situation is different. It’s just how it is for me. You’re really lucky that you get to bring her to work. It’s the best of both worlds!
