But I behaved last night!

October 24th, 2007 | 4 Comments

My stomach is not doing well today. Sometimes I know I eat things that will get me into trouble later, but I try not to do that on the night before I have C for the day. And last night was no exception to that rule. But my oh my I’m not doing great.

Babies, babies everywhere

October 24th, 2007 | 2 Comments

Today at the office we have three babies: C, currently eating, and her two (slightly) older Hickman cousins. But we only have two employees (myself included) and my mother.

It should be interesting … and cute!

I got spammed

5018.

That’s how many spams I got on one email account this morning, mostly around 9 o’clock.

It’s a rough life

I just realized Katie and I hadn’t taken a picture of baby C in several days (gasp!), so I took a quick snapshot of what she’s doing now:

Questions:

Have I blogged about anything other than C in the last 3 months (did you know C turned 3 months today?!? does this mean we start going by months instead of weeks now?)?

And is this a problem?

Me to officemate: So … you going to lunch?

Her: Yep, here in a minute. How’s C?

Me: She’s good. I can’t believe she’s slept this long. This is the most she’s ever slept at the office! And you just know she’ll be awake during lunch. Wait, what the hell am I thinking? She’s giving me time for lunch now! <runs out of the room>

For some reason

For some reason, whenever I give C to my dad, she comes back smelling like Old Spice.

Babies aren’t supposed to smell like aftershave.

I’m a lousy friend

I completely missed my best friend Amy’s birthday yesterday.

Amy and I met when I was a freshman in high school and she was a sophomore. Although we’ve been separated by college and beyond, we’re still close, and she is C’s godmother.

Amy - happy birthday. I love you, dudes. I hope you had a good ‘un, and I hope you can make it to town soon.

Something I learned today

I learned something valuable today: don’t listen to the Ben Folds channel on Pandora unless you really like Billy Joel and Elton John.

It’s your turn

October 17th, 2007 | 2 Comments

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. I am fully aware of how lucky I am to have C here at the office three days a week. I get to spend lots of time with her, and I get to be there when she does really cute things. But most of all, I love her and love being with her.

But there are times when I realize how nice it is to have two parents around. At home, Katie can ask me to take her for a while or I can say “it’s your turn; I’ve got to eat!”

Here at work, on the other hand, it’s only my turn. And if anyboy holds the baby while I eat, they’re just doing me a favor. I’m just coming to realize that any “problems” with having a baby at work are really problems with having no backup parent - with being always “on duty.”
