It’s your turn

October 17, 2007 ·

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. I am fully aware of how lucky I am to have C here at the office three days a week. I get to spend lots of time with her, and I get to be there when she does really cute things. But most of all, I love her and love being with her.

But there are times when I realize how nice it is to have two parents around. At home, Katie can ask me to take her for a while or I can say “it’s your turn; I’ve got to eat!”

Here at work, on the other hand, it’s only my turn. And if anyboy holds the baby while I eat, they’re just doing me a favor. I’m just coming to realize that any “problems” with having a baby at work are really problems with having no backup parent - with being always “on duty.”

I don’t see how single parents manage to survive. I work with one, though, and she does it very well.
