Walk score

July 25, 2007 ·

My neighborhood has a walk score of 55.

And I think it really should be higher, especially for the area.

How does your neighborhood score?

Heh, Cherokee Boulevard (not my ‘hood, but I was curious) only got a 31.

Yeah, the thing’s got some serious flaws. It rates walkability on how well you can walk to buy stuff, and it doesn’t know or rate by sidewalks and greenways. But it’s still kind of neat.

The mileage is waaaay off for my address, because I have used the odometer to find several of the places it listed. It also gave the distance to many places in Blount County, when I live in Knox.

I believe that walk score is cool, but nowadays more and more people prefer to drive cars. Homes are often located in an area where some establishments are easier to get to by car than on foot. I’ve recently found a type of service on Fizber which is called Drive Score. It shows a map of what establishments are in your neighborhood and calculates a Drive Score based on the number of places within a convenient driving distance.

Thanks Kelly! I’ve used that drive score service and was surprised how useful it can be!
