I hate my poor handwriting

February 26th, 2007, at 8:24 AM

At my job, I spend a lot of time writing. And every few days I look down and think “man, I hate my handwriting.” It’s insanely messy, and I have always wished I could improve it.

Has anybody had any luck with improving handwriting? I’ve tried writing slower, but it doesn’t seem to work for me.

Maybe I just need to repeat the third grade. Bonus: I’d learn my times tables this time.

I distinctly remember being 9 or so and coming home after a parent teacher meeting. My dad got out all my notebooks and spread them on the floor, ordering me to get organized and “for god’s sake” write legibly so that your teachers can read your work.

I must have taken it to heart, because I have excruciatingly correct handwriting til this day.

It was actually depressing when my hand was hurting that I couldn’t form my letters the way I liked.

I wish I knew a way to really improve, but in my case it went from good/okay to bad. My handwriting was very neat and I’d say relatively attractive when younger. As the years went on, it seemed the longer I had worked full-time, the worse my handwriting got…. to the point where now it’s such chicken scratch, sometimes I can’t even read what I wrote.

I had always gotten all A’s in school until the quarter I got a B+ in Penmanship. Momma had me practice every afternoon after school until that B+ was back to an A level. It was not a fun time.

Actually, I had to take a mini handwriting course at PC. I think all the Elementary Ed folks had to-
    workbooks from Zaner-Bloser.

I print fairly neatly, I am an engineer and it was drilled into me. But my cursive is wretched. My hand seems to get ahead of my brain, or vice versa.

Engineers always seem to have good handwriting. Do you write in all caps?

As for cursive, I don’t see the point. I don’t even remember how to write all the uppercase letters anymore.

I don’t write in all caps, I find too tedious. About the only time I write in cursive is my signature. And then sometimes it’s just squiggly lines instead of letters.
