Dear dogs:

Yes you, Fiat & Mabel.

Why must you bark so much when I let you out? And if something out there is so exciting or so threatening or just so plain interesting, if you must protect us with your fierce woof, why then do you come running inside so quickly when I so much as crack open the door?

I hear you. Dobie in particular is a chronic barker, and more often than not barking at nothing.

My Mabel is a weird sort of barker. She will bark when people hug me.
    Very odd.

Our Mabel has taken to barking at weird things, too. She tells you if she doesn’t like the outfit you’re wearing, for example.

Which isn’t as helpful as it sounds, actually. Dogs don’t have particularly good taste in clothes.
